We finished our (around Cusco sight seeing) by 1 PM and then took a private taxi for 20 dollars to Ollantaybamba, a city 50 miles away from cusco. On the ride we saw so many beautiful mountains! Its amazing that the Peruvian countryside has so mcuh: jungles, cities, deserts, and even snow capped mountains! It was a great surprise for the car ride. Once arriving in Ollantaybamba we took a train (Peru Rail, the tourist train, read a couple posts down about how tourists are overcharged on every little thing here) to get here to Aguas Calientes.
I posted a picture of this train called Hiram Bingham (named after the “discoverer” of Machu Picchu, that is the train for rich tourists that costs over $200 for a one way ride. Its more or less disgusting that someone would think to offer that service and that people would want to ride this “Luxury train” while on the ride there are farms and families outside the window that don’t make $200 US dollars in a year. Just a really strange thing to note about tourism in a 3rd world country versus somewhere like a European nation.
