Show at Asociación Cultural Brisas del Titicaca
So for one of our last nights in Lima before we went to Cusco we went to this dance show at this place called “Brisas del Titicaca” or just Brisas for short. It was a bit pricey to get in and then on top of that they charged you a bit too much for a limited dinner menu (Andrea and I ended up splitting a plate). BUT it was still awesome to see the dances. They did dances from different regions in Peru (and Bolivia) but definitely did not cover all of the regions. Nonetheless it was still really fun to see. My favorite dance was the Marinera Nortena. Brisas has been functioning, showing folk performances, for 18 years. Although the place seated 1,200 people, there were only 100 or so people in the audience since we went on a Tuesday night. This was nice because I got to go upstairs to the balcony, get a really good seat and take as many photos as I wanted which was definitely a pleasure for me. The place was pretty replete with tourists instead of native Peruvians but I think everyone got a chance to show off the little Latino/Latina in them when the band played music (while the dancers were changing) and we got to get up and dance. They played Danza Kuduro among some other songs that I have become familiar with so it was really fun to get up and dance and it was especially fun to see an old Japanese guy ask Andrea to come up to dance!
