Mercado del Magdelena

So these are pictures from the local market near Andrea’s house.  There are a series of stores outside/on the border of 1-2 blocks but then you enter through an alleyway to the market.  Definitely the first thing that hit me when entering the market was the smell.  There was just fish, meat, and dairy hanging outside, waiting for someone to buy it.  For some reason people do not refrigerate their dairy here so there are just eggs chilling outside.  This is so strange for me, and I have not eaten/bought the dairy like this!  Besides the meat and fish that is everywhere there are places to eat and munch with little counters that you sit at.  Also there is LOTS of fruit and grains.  But the fruit is the best part: making the market so colorful and replacing the pungent smell of the meat and fish with a fresher smell!  While here we bought some mangos (just make sure to wash them well)!  Its crazy that people come here to get their everyday needs, including this meat (sometimes with flies buzzing around) but also bread, fruit, vegetables, grains etc.  It was nice (minus the raw meat) and colorful.  Definitely full of life!
