Birthday Week
Recently there was a week where we celebrated two Alva birthdays. Andrea turned 24 on tuesday and Fabiola turned 22 on thursday. This meant cake and fun. For Andrea’s birthday we went out to a Chifa (A chinese restaurant with supposedly a peruvian spin, though to me it just tasted like chinese food). We had a cake and sang happy birthday (or rather “Cumpleanos Feliz”) and it was really nice having her whole family there!
Then for Fabiola’s birthday we ended up going out to a club on the beach called Antiqua. They played a mix of “latin” music and recent pop (American) music. So I really enjoyed the dancing. I also tried a new drink called a “Machu Picchu” which is a tricolor drink made up of grenadine, orange juice, mint, and pisco (which is this special type of Peruvian brandy). There is also this really good pisco sour which tastes a bit like lemonade. Anyways we had fun hanging out together, taking pictures and dancing until almost 5:30 in the morning. That’s another thing. People don’t leave their houses to go out here until midnight, then they party, literally until the dawn (and of course sleep all the next day until its time to party again). It was a really fun experience but at the end of the night ~6 AM, I was very happy to see my bed and go to sleep. I don’t think I could keep up with the Peruvian party lifestyle!
