A Sunday Adventure Part 2

We arrived in Antioquia, A small little town, maybe 1 mile diameter, about 60 miles southwest of Lima in the Lurin river basin.  However one of the cool things about this town is the way the buildings are painted.  The town used to be very poor but they brought in an artist to paint flowers, fruits, angels, and birds on the sides of the buildings.  They call it the “city of colors” though I’m not sure city is the right terminology.  Now it caught people’s attention, bringing in more visitors from Lima, and causing other small mountain villages to also paint their buildings in a similar style.  Furthermore, it doesn’t hurt that its surrounded by these majestic mountains that seem to humbly sprawl towards the cloudless sky!

We parked the car and walked around the little courtyard plaza until we decided to go on our hike.  It ended up not being much of a hike but more of a walk to an “outlook point” that was halfway up a mountain.  It was still really quite beautiful and I think I was the only one quite so enchanted with the settings (the others had seen it, or something similar to this before).  I took lots of pictures (see above) and tried to capture the panoramic feel of the mountains.  Well we came down from our halfway point, back into the town itself, and we found a place right near the river/creek to have lunch.

There was no running water so you had to wash your hands with creek water and soap but the food was cooked well still!  I ate a really tasty river fish and had some juice made from a fruit similar to an apple.  It was a very filling lunch for sure but about this time it was 4:00 and we had to head back to Lima!

Sure enough, we made it back to Lima two hours later, I fell asleep on the ride back, but I did wake up in time to hear the Paraguay vs. Brasil Copa America final over the radio (Paraguay won during the final penalty “shoot-off” which was a surprise since Brasil has such a great team).  Anyways, they are definitely trying to build up the mountain area as a tourist attraction.  Lots more resorts, restaurants, and “mountain/river adventure sites” are filling up the valley.  This could be a good thing but I hope it does not distract from the natural beauty of the place!

We made it back to Lima safe and sound ~ 6pm so it was a very fun/full Sunday.
