POST 3: The Family Style Atmosphere
Well, like I said, Andrea´s family lives here in Lima, Peru even though she goes to school in the states! So a lot of our first days (and still to date) we have spent some portion of time at the Alva household. This is really nice because her family is so welcoming! Andrea is the oldest of her siblings (24 yrs) and she has a younger sister Fabiola (21) and a young brother who is 10. Then there is her Grandma, Mom, and Dad. Her Mother is the definition of a true Peruvian per se because she knows how to barter taxis, how to catch the right micros, where to buy the best fruit, etc. etc. So it has been really nice having her introduce me (and reintroduce Andrea) to life in Lima. Together we have gone out for lunches and ate a lot of wonderful homecooked meals!
You could definitely say that even though I am staying in a hostel, I am still very much experiencing the Host family feel! The Alva’s are really warm and welcoming and I am really grateful that they have let me sit in on their daily lives, offered me hospitality and given me lots and lots of yummy food!
